31 U.S.C. § 306 — Fiscal Service

The Fiscal Service is part of the Treasury Department, led by the Fiscal Assistant Secretary. It contains two bureaus, each with its own commissioner. The Treasury Secretary can name a stand-in when the top job is empty or the leader is away.
(a) The Fiscal Service is a service inside the Department of the Treasury.
(b) The Fiscal Assistant Secretary, appointed under section 301(d), leads the Fiscal Service.
(c) The Fiscal Service has two bureaus: (1) the Bureau of Government Financial Operations, led by a Commissioner of Government Financial Operations; and (2) the Bureau of the Public Debt, led by a Commissioner of the Public Debt.
(d) The Secretary of the Treasury may name another Treasury officer or employee to act as Fiscal Assistant Secretary when that person is away, unable to serve, or the office is empty.
The Fiscal Service is a service in the Department of the Treasury.
The head of the Fiscal Service is the Fiscal Assistant Secretary appointed under section 301(d) of this title.
The Fiscal Service has a—
Bureau of Government Financial Operations, having as its head a Commissioner of Government Financial Operations; and
Bureau of the Public Debt, having as its head a Commissioner of the Public Debt.
The Secretary of the Treasury may designate another officer or employee of the Department to act as the Fiscal Assistant Secretary when the Fiscal Assistant Secretary is absent or unable to serve or when the office of Fiscal Assistant Secretary is vacant.
