33 U.S.C. § 1202 — Definitions

This section defines three terms used in the chapter.
(1) “Secretary” means the Secretary of the Department in which the Coast Guard operates. This section does not define “Department.” (2) “Power-driven vessel” means a vessel propelled by machinery. (3) “Towing vessel” means a commercial vessel towing another vessel astern, alongside, or by pushing ahead.
For the purpose of this chapter—
“Secretary” means the Secretary of the Department in which the Coast Guard is operating;
“power-driven vessel” means any vessel propelled by machinery; and
“towing vessel” means any commercial vessel engaged in towing another vessel astern, alongside, or by pushing ahead.
