The U.S. Sentencing Commission must update its sentencing guidelines to add a stronger penalty for people convicted of dealing drugs near schools and other "drug-free" zones.
Using its general power to set sentencing guidelines (under section 994 of title 28), the United States Sentencing Commission must update its guidelines to add an appropriate extra penalty for someone convicted of violating section 860 of title 21 — the law against dealing drugs in "drug-free" zones such as near schools.
Pursuant to its authority under section 994 of title 28, the United States Sentencing Commission shall amend its sentencing guidelines to provide an appropriate enhancement for a defendant convicted of violating section 860 of title 21.
