36 U.S.C. § 120109 — Service of process

This law requires the corporation to have a legal contact in Washington, D.C. That designated agent receives legal papers, called service of process, on the corporation's behalf. Notifying or serving the agent counts as notifying or serving the corporation itself.
The corporation shall have a designated agent in the District of Columbia to receive service of process for the corporation. Notice to or service on the agent is notice to or service on the corporation.
