The Reserve Officers Association must name an agent in Washington, D.C. to accept legal papers on its behalf. It must also register an agent in every state, territory, or possession where it has a local chapter.

(a) District of Columbia. The corporation must pick an agent in D.C. to receive legal papers, called "service of process." When someone delivers papers to that agent, it counts as delivering them to the corporation itself. (b) States, Territories, and Possessions. To use any power this chapter gives it, the corporation must also file paperwork in every state, territory, or possession where it has a subordinate department or local chapter. That paperwork must go to the secretary of state or similar official, and must name an agent there who can accept legal papers or demands against the corporation.
