38 U.S.C. § 1719 — Repair or replacement of certain prosthetic and other appliances

The Secretary may repair or replace certain personal medical appliances belonging to a veteran if a service-connected disability caused an accident that damaged or destroyed them and the veteran receives, or would qualify for, disability compensation.
The Secretary* may repair or replace an artificial limb, truss, brace, hearing aid, spectacles, or similar appliance, but not a dental appliance, if it is reasonably necessary for a veteran* and belongs to the veteran, and a fall or other accident caused by a service-connected* disability* damaged or destroyed it. The veteran must be receiving disability compensation* for that disability or would be entitled to it but for receiving retirement pay.
The Secretary* may repair or replace any artificial limb, truss, brace, hearing aid, spectacles, or similar appliance (not including dental appliances) reasonably necessary to a veteran* and belonging to such veteran which was damaged or destroyed by a fall or other accident caused by a service-connected* disability* for which such veteran is in receipt of, or but for the receipt of retirement pay would be entitled to, disability compensation*.
