38 U.S.C. § 1909 — Effective date of insurance

This section allows insurance to become effective as specified in the application, but no later than the first day of the following calendar month. The United States is not liable for a death before the effective date.
Insurance* may be made effective, as specified in the application, no later than the first day of the calendar month following the date of application therefor, but the United States must not be liable thereunder for death occurring before such effective date.
