38 U.S.C. § 321 — Office of Survivors Assistance

(a) Establishment. The Secretary must set up an Office of Survivors Assistance ("the Office") inside the Department. The Office serves as a resource on all VA benefits and services for two groups: survivors and dependents of veterans who have died, and survivors and dependents of service members who have died. (b) Advisory Duties. The Office is the Secretary's main advisor on policies, programs, legislative issues, and other initiatives that affect those survivors and dependents. (c) Guidance From Stakeholders. When setting up the Office, the Secretary must ask interested stakeholders for guidance. (d) Resources. The Secretary must make sure the Office gets the staff, funding, and other resources it needs to do its job. (e) Inclusion of Information on Office in Annual Report on Department Activities. Each year, the Secretary must include a description of the Office's activities in the annual Performance and Accountability report sent to Congress.
