The Administrator of General Services leads the General Services Administration. The President appoints the Administrator with Senate approval, and the Administrator answers to the President. The Administrator also appoints a Deputy Administrator, who takes over when the Administrator is away or the job is vacant.
(a) Administrator: The Administrator of General Services heads the General Services Administration. The President appoints the Administrator, with the Senate's advice and consent. The Administrator carries out duties under the President's direction and control.
(b) Deputy Administrator: The Administrator must appoint a Deputy Administrator of General Services, who carries out whatever functions the Administrator assigns. The Deputy Administrator becomes Acting Administrator of General Services whenever the Administrator is absent or unable to serve, and also when the Administrator's office is vacant — unless the President designates a different officer instead.
The Administrator of General Services is the head of the General Services Administration. The Administrator is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Administrator shall perform functions subject to the direction and control of the President.
The Administrator shall appoint a Deputy Administrator of General Services. The Deputy Administrator shall perform functions designated by the Administrator. The Deputy Administrator is Acting Administrator of General Services during the absence or disability of the Administrator and, unless the President designates another officer of the Federal Government, when the office of Administrator is vacant.
