This section lists five goals of the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act. These include helping families save for a home down payment and keeping federally assisted housing affordable. Other goals are strengthening public-private partnerships, expanding rental assistance, and increasing supportive housing for people with special needs.
This section lists the purposes of the Act:
(1) to help families* who don't own a home save up for a down payment;
(2) to keep dwelling units that were built with federal help affordable to low-income families*, wherever that's still possible;
(3) to build and strengthen partnerships among every level of government and the private sector -- including for-profit and nonprofit groups -- to produce and run housing* that low-income and moderate-income families can afford;
(4) to expand and improve federal rental assistance for families with very low incomes; and
(5) to increase the supply of "supportive housing" -- housing that combines physical features and services so people with special needs can live with dignity and independence.
The purposes of this Act are—
to help families* not owning a home to save for a down payment for the purchase of a home;
to retain wherever feasible as housing* affordable to low-income families* those dwelling units produced for such purpose with Federal assistance;
to extend and strengthen partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector, including for-profit and nonprofit organizations, in the production and operation of housing affordable to low-income and moderate-income families;
to expand and improve Federal rental assistance for very low-income families*; and
to increase the supply of supportive housing, which combines structural features and services needed to enable persons with special needs to live with dignity and independence.
