42 U.S.C. § 12854 — Definitions

This section defines six terms used in the Trust subchapter. A "displaced homemaker" worked unpaid at home and now struggles to find work. "State" includes the 50 states, D.C., and several U.S. territories.
For this subchapter, these terms mean:
(1) Board of Directors: the Board of Directors of the National Homeownership Trust under section 12851(b).
(2) Displaced homemaker: an individual who (A) is an adult, (B) has not worked full-time, full-year in the paid labor force for a number of years, but worked mostly without pay caring for a home and family during those years, and (C) is unemployed or underemployed and having trouble finding or improving employment.
(3) Fund: the National Homeownership Trust Fund set up in section 12853.
(4) Single parent: an individual who (A) is unmarried or legally separated from a spouse, and (B) either (i) has one or more minor children in their custody or joint custody, or (ii) is pregnant.
(5) State: the states of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any other U.S. territory or possession.
(6) Trust: the National Homeownership Trust established in section 12851.
For purposes of this subchapter:
The term “Board of Directors” or “Board” means the Board of Directors of the National Homeownership Trust under section 12851(b) of this title.
The term “displaced homemaker” means an individual who—
is an adult;
has not worked full-time full-year in the labor force for a number of years, but has during such years, worked primarily without remuneration to care for the home and family; and
is unemployed or underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.
The term “Fund” means the National Homeownership Trust Fund established in section 12853 of this title.
The term “single parent” means an individual who—
is unmarried or legally separated from a spouse; and
has 1 or more minor children for whom the individual has custody or joint custody; or
is pregnant.
The term “State” means the States of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any other territory or possession of the United States.
The term “Trust” means the National Homeownership Trust established in section 12851 of this title.
