42 U.S.C. § 15831 — Public energy education program

(a) In general. Within 180 days after August 8, 2005, the Secretary had to call an organizational conference. Its goal was to start an ongoing, self-sustaining national public energy education program. (b) Participants. The Secretary had to invite people and organizations representing every part of energy production and distribution, including (1) industrial firms; (2) professional societies; (3) educational organizations; (4) trade associations; and (5) government agencies. (c) Purpose, scope, and structure. (1) Purpose: The conference aimed to build an ongoing, self-sustaining national public energy education program that would examine and highlight how different energy sources connect, including (A) conservation and energy efficiency, (B) the role of energy use in the economy, and (C) the impact of energy use on the environment. (2) Scope and structure: Keeping that purpose in mind, the conference participants had to design the program's scope and structure themselves. (d) Technical assistance. The Secretary must provide the technical assistance and other guidance needed to carry out the program. (e) Authorization of appropriations. Congress authorized whatever amount is necessary to carry out this section.
