42 U.S.C. § 17054 — Biofuels distribution and advanced biofuels infrastructure

(a) In general. The Secretary^*, working with the Secretary of Transportation and consulting the Administrator^* of the Environmental Protection Agency, must carry out a program of research, development, and demonstration on existing transportation fuel distribution infrastructure and new alternative distribution infrastructure.

(b) Focus. This program must focus on the physical and chemical properties of biofuels, and on efforts to prevent or reduce the harm those properties can cause, in areas including: (1) corroding metal, plastic, rubber, cork, fiberglass, glue, or any other material used in pipes and storage tanks; (2) dissolving storage tank sediment; (3) clogging filters; (4) contamination from water or other adulterants or pollutants; (5) poor flow at low temperatures; (6) breaking down chemically or from heat during long-term storage and use; (7) microbial contamination; (8) problems with electrical conductivity; and (9) any other areas the Secretary considers appropriate.
