The Secretary of Energy must name an existing advisory committee for grid research within 180 days. Each year, the committee must give advice on grid technology needs and progress.
(a) In general. Within 180 days after December 27, 2020, the Secretary* must name an existing advisory committee* to advise on approving research, development, and demonstration projects under sections 17384 and 17384a of this title.
(b) Responsibility. Each year, the Secretary must ask the committee for: (1) comments identifying what grid modernization technology is needed; (2) an assessment of how research on grid modernization is progressing; and (3) help updating the grid modernization technology roadmaps each year.
Not later than 180 days after December 27, 2020, the Secretary* shall designate an existing advisory committee* to advise the Secretary on the authorization of research, development, and demonstration projects under sections 17384 and 17384a of this title.
The Secretary shall annually solicit from the advisory committee—
comments to identify grid modernization technology needs;
an assessment of the progress of the research activities on grid modernization; and
assistance in annually updating grid modernization technology roadmaps.
