The Secretary must expand Department industrial assessment centers to cover smart manufacturing and train their directors to help manufacturers use it.
(a) The Secretary* must expand the technologies covered by the Department’s industrial research and assessment centers to include smart-manufacturing technologies and practices*. (b) The Secretary must give center directors the training and tools needed to provide manufacturers technical help with smart manufacturing*, including energy-management systems.
The Secretary* shall expand the scope of technologies covered by the industrial research and assessment centers of the Department—
to include smart manufacturing* technologies and practices*; and
to equip the directors of the industrial research and assessment centers with the training and tools necessary to provide technical assistance in smart manufacturing technologies and practices, including energy management systems, to manufacturers.
