42 U.S.C. § 247b–10 — Compilation of data on asthma

(a) In general The Secretary, through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, must: (1) run local surveillance to collect data on how common and severe asthma is, and how well it is being managed; (2) put together and publish, every year, data on how many children in each state have asthma; and (3) as much as possible, put together and publish data on the national childhood death rate linked to asthma. (b) Surveillance activities The Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, through the Director's representative on the National Asthma Education Prevention Program Coordinating Committee, must give the Committee an update on this surveillance work at every Committee meeting. (c) Collaborative efforts The activity described in (a)(1) can be carried out together with entities that received a grant under section 280g of this title. (d) Authorization of appropriations Whatever money is necessary is authorized for fiscal years 2001 through 2005.
