42 U.S.C. § 274i–1 — Solicitation of donations; prohibition on use of Federal funds

(a) In general: The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network may collect donated funds to offset the cost of issuing medals authorized under this part. (b) Payment of funds: (1) Except as limited by paragraph (2), the Network must promptly pay all funds it collects under (a) to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to buy medals for distribution and to pay the administrative costs the Secretary and the Secretary of the Treasury incur running this part. (2) No more than 7 percent of the funds collected under (a) can go toward the Network's own administrative costs and fundraising costs for soliciting those funds. (c) Prohibition on use of Federal funds: No federal money — including money appropriated for the Network's use — can be spent on this part, including buying medals or paying the administrative costs of the Secretary of Health and Human Services or the Secretary of the Treasury.
