A Gift of Life medal given under this part does not count as "valuable consideration" for purposes of the ban on buying and selling human organs.
A medal given under this part is not treated as "valuable consideration" for purposes of section 274e(a) of this title — the law that bans paying for human organs. In other words, receiving a medal for donating an organ* does not turn the donation into an illegal organ sale.
A medal under this part shall not be treated as valuable consideration for purposes of section 274e(a) of this title.
