42 U.S.C. § 284e — Research on osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, and related bone disorders

(a) Establishment. The directors of four named institutes — Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, Aging, Dental Research, and Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases — must expand and intensify their programs on research related to osteoporosis, Paget's disease, and related bone disorders. (b) Coordination. Those directors must jointly coordinate their programs on this topic. They must also consult with the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases Interagency Coordinating Committee and the Interagency Task Force on Aging Research. (c) Information clearinghouse. (1) To help carry out subsection (a), the Director of NIH must set up an information clearinghouse on osteoporosis and related bone disorders. Its job is to spread useful knowledge to health professionals, patients, and the public. (2) To build this clearinghouse, the Director of NIH must enter into a grant, cooperative agreement, or contract with a nonprofit private organization already working on preventing and controlling osteoporosis and related bone disorders.
