42 U.S.C. § 286b–8 — Grant payments, records, and audit

(a) Payments under grants made under sections 286b–3, 286b–4, 286b–5, 286b–6, and 286b–7 can be made in advance, or by way of reimbursement after costs are paid. The Secretary decides the installment schedule by regulation, after consulting the Board. (b) Every grant recipient under this subpart must keep records the Secretary requires. These records must fully show how much grant money was received and how it was spent, the total cost of the project, how much of that cost came from other sources, and anything else needed for an effective audit. The Secretary and the Comptroller General of the United States — or anyone they properly authorize — can access a recipient's books, documents, papers, and records for audit and examination, as long as those records relate to a grant received under this subpart.
