42 U.S.C. § 290bb–36d — Treatment Referral Routing Service

(a) In general The Secretary, through the Assistant Secretary, must maintain the National Treatment Referral Routing Service (the "Routing Service") to help individuals and families find mental and substance use disorder treatment providers. (b) Activities of the Secretary Maintaining the Routing Service must include administering: (1) a nationwide telephone number, available year-round, giving regularly updated information on local behavioral health providers and community-based organizations — confidential, without requiring callers to identify themselves, available in at least English and Spanish, and free to use; and (2) a website with a searchable, online locator of behavioral health treatment providers and community-based organizations, listing each one's name, location, contact information, and basic services. (c) Removing practitioner contact information If the website includes information on a practitioner who prescribes narcotic drugs in Schedule III, IV, or V of 21 U.S.C. § 812 for maintenance or detoxification treatment, the Assistant Secretary: (1) must give that practitioner a chance to have their contact information removed from the website at their request; and (2) may explore other ways to periodically update the website's information. (d) Rule of construction Nothing in this section stops the Assistant Secretary from using any unobligated funds otherwise available to the Administration to maintain the Routing Service.
