42 U.S.C. § 294u — Education and awareness initiative encouraging use of mental health and substance use disorder services by health care professionals

(a) In general Working with medical professional groups, the Secretary must set up a national education and awareness program that (1) encourages health workers to seek support and care for mental health or substance use problems, helps them recognize suicide and mental health warning signs, and teaches them how to respond, with the goal of preventing suicide, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders; and (2) works to reduce the stigma of getting mental health and substance use help. (b) Reporting No later than two years after March 18, 2022, and every year after that, the Secretary must give the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee an update on the program's activities and outcomes, including the metrics used to evaluate them. (c) Authorization of appropriations Congress may spend $10,000,000 each year from 2026 through 2030 to carry out this section.
