42 U.S.C. § 295b — Public health traineeships

(a) In general The Secretary may give grants to accredited schools of public health, and to other accredited public or nonprofit institutions that offer graduate or specialized public health training, so they can offer traineeships to the individuals described in subsection (b)(3). (b) Certain requirements (1) Amount: The Secretary decides how much each grant is worth. (2) Use of grant: Traineeships funded by these grants must cover tuition and fees, plus whatever stipends and allowances — including travel, living expenses, and dependency allowances — the Secretary thinks the trainees need. (3) Eligible individuals: Traineeships go to people studying a health professions field with a severe worker shortage — fields that include epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, toxicology, nutrition, and maternal and child health.
