42 U.S.C. § 299b–24a — Activities regarding women’s health

(a) Establishment. The law creates an Office of Women's Health and Gender-Based Research inside the Office of the Director. The Director of Healthcare and Research Quality appoints a director to head it. (b) Purpose. This director must: (1) Report to the Agency's Director on how much the Agency currently works on women's health — across age, biology, and social factors — in all its work, including evidence reports, clinical guidelines, and research into patient outcomes, care delivery, care quality, and access to care. (2) Set short-term and long-term goals for research important to women's health within the Agency, and, where relevant, coordinate on health services and medical effectiveness research that matters especially to women. (3) Identify women's health projects the Agency should fund or support. (4) Consult with health professionals, nongovernmental organizations, consumer groups, women's health professionals, and others as needed on Agency policy toward women. (5) Serve as a member of the HHS Coordinating Committee on Women's Health, established under section 237a(b)(4). (c) Authorization of appropriations. Congress may fund this section with whatever money is needed for fiscal years 2010 through 2014.
