42 U.S.C. § 300ee–31 — Availability of information to general public

(a) Comprehensive information plan The Secretary, acting through the Director of the CDC, must prepare a comprehensive plan every year -- including a budget -- for a National Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Information Program. The plan must include provisions to carry out this subchapter. The Director must submit the plan to the Secretary. This subsection doesn't mean the Director's authority to run AIDS information activities comes only from this subsection. (b) Clearinghouse (1) The Secretary, through the CDC Director, may set up a clearinghouse to give federal agencies, states, public and private entities, and the general public access to AIDS information. (2) The clearinghouse may run or support programs to: (A) develop and get educational materials, model curricula, and methods for reducing the spread of the AIDS virus; (B) support and train people who teach AIDS-prevention education, including how to use those materials and curricula; and (C) study or arrange study of how effective those materials, curricula, and methods actually are at preventing infection. (c) Toll-free telephone communications The Secretary must set up and maintain a toll-free phone line that gives information to, and answers questions from, the public about AIDS. This service must be available 24 hours a day.
