42 U.S.C. § 300ff–136 — Selection of designated officers

This law makes each State's public health officer name a designated officer for every emergency-response employer. That officer handles infectious-disease notifications.
(a) To receive notifications and responses, and to make requests under this part on behalf of emergency response employees, each State's public health officer must designate one official or officer for every employer of emergency response employees in the State*.
(b) In choosing who to designate, the public health officer should prefer people trained in health care or in controlling infectious diseases.
For the purposes of receiving notifications and responses and making requests under this part on behalf of emergency response employees, the public health officer of each State* shall designate 1 official or officer of each employer of emergency response employees in the State.
In making the designations required in subsection (a), a public health officer shall give preference to individuals who are trained in the provision of health care or in the control of infectious diseases.
