42 U.S.C. § 300t–13 — Grants to States for reduction of excess hospital capacity

(a) "Excess hospital capacity" defined; particular activities. To test different ways of reducing excess hospital capacity — extra hospital resources and facilities beyond what's needed — the Secretary may give grants to State Agencies designated under section 300m(b)(3), to help them (1) identify excess capacity, by region or by service; (2) develop programs telling the public what excess capacity costs; (3) develop programs to cut excess capacity in ways that save the most on health care delivery; (4) find ways to overcome obstacles to reducing excess capacity; (5) plan, evaluate, and run programs to decertify health facilities providing services that aren't appropriate; and (6) carry out any other activity related to reducing excess hospital capacity. (b) Terms and conditions. The Secretary sets whatever terms and conditions apply to these grants.
