42 U.S.C. § 5180 — Food commodities

The President must ensure that adequate food supplies are ready and conveniently available for emergency mass feeding or distribution in any area of the United States affected by a major disaster or emergency. The Secretary^* of Agriculture must use funds appropriated under section 612c of title 7 to buy the food commodities needed for those supplies.

(a) Emergency mass feeding. The President must ensure that the supplies are ready and available in the affected area.

(b) Funds for purchase of food commodities. The Secretary of Agriculture must use the specified funds to purchase the needed food commodities for any United States area where a major disaster or emergency occurs.

This section does not define “major disaster,” “emergency,” “adequate stocks,” or “emergency mass feeding.”
