A State's relinquishment of land claims does not take effect until the Secretary transfers the lands for which the State applied. The Secretary must then administer and dispose of the relinquished lands under the public-land laws.
A State's quitclaim or relinquishment of every right, title, and interest in lands under sections 641a through 641d does not take effect until the Secretary transfers the lands for which the State applied under section 641a. The Secretary must provide for administering and disposing of lands that the States quitclaimed or relinquished under sections 641a through 641d.
The quitclaim or relinquishment of all right, title, and interest by the State to any lands under sections 641a to 641d of this title shall not be effective until the Secretary has transferred the lands applied for under section 641a of this title. The Secretary shall provide for the administration and disposition under the public-land laws of the lands quitclaimed or relinquished by the States pursuant to sections 641a to 641d of this title.
