43 U.S.C. § 662 — Reservation of reservoir sites generally

This section reserves reservoir and other hydraulic-work sites on public lands. Sites selected before August 30, 1890, remain reserved, and later sites are reserved from selection or location.
Sites for reservoirs and other hydraulic works needed to store and use irrigation water or prevent floods and overflows that were located or selected before August 30, 1890, remain separated and reserved from entry or settlement until a law provides otherwise. Sites located or selected afterward on public lands are likewise reserved starting on the date they are located or selected.
Sites for reservoirs and other hydraulic works necessary for the storage and utilization of water for irrigation and the prevention of floods and overflows, located or selected prior to August 30, 1890, shall remain segregated and reserved from entry, or settlement, until otherwise provided by law, and reservoir sites thereafter located or selected on public lands shall in like manner be reserved from the date of the location or selection thereof.
