For law enforcement or other approved reasons, the Secretary of Transportation must share vessel information with any State that supplies its own information. The Secretary may also share this information with other people or groups.
(1) The Secretary of Transportation must give vessel* identification information to any State* that shares its own vessel information under section 12503(a), for law enforcement or other purposes, under conditions the Secretary sets.
(2) The Secretary may also share this information with other people or organizations, under conditions the Secretary sets.
For law enforcement or other purposes and under conditions prescribed by the Secretary of Transportation, the Secretary—
shall make available information in the vessel* identification system to a State* making information available under section 12503(a) of this title; and
may make available information in the vessel identification system to others.
