46 U.S.C. § 15101 — National Chemical Transportation Safety Advisory Committee

(a) Establishment: The law creates a National Chemical Transportation Safety Advisory Committee, called "the Committee" in this section. (b) Function: The Committee advises the Secretary on matters relating to the safe and secure marine transportation of hazardous materials. (c) Membership: (1) In general: The Committee has no more than 25 members, appointed by the Secretary following this section and section 15109. (2) Expertise: Each member must have real expertise, knowledge, and experience related to what the Committee does. (3) Representation: Each member must represent one of these groups: (A) chemical manufacturers; (B) entities involved in marine handling or transport of chemicals; (C) vessel design and construction entities; (D) marine safety or security entities; (E) marine environmental protection entities. (4) Distribution: Based on the Coast Guard's needs, the Secretary decides how many members represent each group listed above. Neither this rule nor any other law requires an equal number of members from each group.
