5 U.S.C. § 8350 — Retirement counseling

(a) A “retirement counselor,” for an agency, is an agency employee whom the agency head designates to give other agency employees information about benefits under this subchapter and chapter 84 of this title, and counseling about those benefits. This section does not define the quoted term “benefits.” (b) The Director of the Office of Personnel Management must establish a training program for every Federal agency retirement counselor. (c)(1) The program must provide comprehensive training on the provisions and administration of this subchapter and chapter 84 of this title. It must be designed to help employees and Members under this subchapter, and people subject to chapter 84, make fully informed retirement decisions. It must be revised as needed so the information given to counselors stays current. (2) The Director must hold a training session at least once every three months. (3) Every agency retirement counselor must successfully complete a session under the program once each year.
