50 U.S.C. § 167p — Helium-3 separation

(a) Interagency cooperation: The Secretary must work with the Secretary of Energy, or someone the Secretary of Energy designates, on any assessment or research into extracting and refining the isotope helium-3 from crude helium and other possible sources. That cooperation includes (1) gas analysis and (2) infrastructure studies. (b) Feasibility study: The Secretary, consulting with the Secretary of Energy or a designee, may carry out a study on whether it is feasible to (1) build a facility that separates helium-3 from crude helium, and (2) explore other potential sources of helium-3. This study is optional, not required. (c) Report: Within 1 year of October 2, 2013, the Secretary must submit a report to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Natural Resources describing the results of the assessments done under this section. (d) Authorization of appropriations: Congress authorizes $1,000,000 to be spent carrying out this section.
