This section establishes the CIA General Counsel. The President appoints the General Counsel with the Senate’s advice and consent, and the General Counsel is the CIA’s chief legal officer.
(a) Appointment. The President must appoint the CIA General Counsel from civilian life, with the Senate’s advice and consent.
(b) Chief legal officer. The General Counsel is the CIA’s chief legal officer.
(c) Functions. The General Counsel must perform the functions the Director prescribes.
There is a General Counsel of the Central Intelligence Agency, appointed from civilian life by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate.
The General Counsel is the chief legal officer of the Central Intelligence Agency.
The General Counsel of the Central Intelligence Agency shall perform such functions as the Director may prescribe.
