A person who gives the U.S. government original information about illegal special nuclear material or atomic weapons can get a reward. This covers finding such material, its illegal introduction or manufacture inside the country, or its illegal export. The maximum reward is $500,000.

This section creates a reward for tips about special nuclear material or atomic weapons. It applies to any person who gives the United States "original information." Three situations qualify: (a) the information leads the United States to find or otherwise get hold of special nuclear material or an atomic weapon that was brought into the United States, or made or acquired inside the United States, illegally; (b) the information relates to bringing such material or weapons into the United States, or making or acquiring them (or attempting to, or conspiring to), illegally; or (c) the information relates to exporting such material or weapons from the United States, or attempting to or conspiring to, illegally. Anyone who gives this kind of information may be rewarded with a payment of up to $500,000.
