This section prohibits officers of the United States Army, Navy, or Air Force from prescribing or fixing, or trying to prescribe or fix, voter qualifications in any State. It also prohibits them from interfering with the freedom of an election or with the free right to vote in any State.
No officer of the Army, Navy, or Air Force of the United States may prescribe or fix, or try to prescribe or fix, by proclamation, order, or any other means, the qualifications of voters in any State. Such an officer also may not interfere in any way with the freedom of an election in any State or with the exercise of the free right to vote in any State.
No officer of the Army, Navy, or Air Force of the United States shall prescribe or fix, or attempt to prescribe or fix, by proclamation, order, or otherwise, the qualifications of voters in any State, or in any manner interfere with the freedom of any election in any State, or with the exercise of the free right of suffrage in any State.
