This section defines “museum object” for this chapter. A museum object is usually movable, and either fits or already joined a museum, library, or archive collection. Examples include artifacts, art, books, documents, photos, and natural history specimens.
(1) In general.— A “museum object” is something that (A) is typically movable, and (B) is eligible to become part of a museum, library, or archive collection, or has already become part of one, through a formal process like accessioning.
(2) Inclusions.— A “museum object” includes things like a prehistoric or historic artifact, a work of art, a book, a document, a photograph, or a natural history specimen.
In this chapter:
The term “museum object” means an object that—
typically is movable; and
is eligible to be, or is made part of, a museum, library, or archive collection through a formal procedure, such as accessioning.
