6 U.S.C. § 1202 — Railroad security-sensitive material tracking

(a) Communications. (1) In general. Along with the research program under section 1168 and consistent with wireless and other tracking research, the Secretary^*, consulting the Transportation Security Administration Administrator^*, must develop a program encouraging rail cars carrying “security-sensitive materials” (a term this section does not define) to have technology that provides (A) the car’s location and tracking and (B), as appropriate, notice of depressurization, a breach, an unsafe temperature, or a hazardous-material release. (2) Coordination. The Secretary must (A) consult the Transportation Secretary so the program coordinates with Department^* of Transportation rail-car tracking efforts and (B) keep it consistent with the Department of Homeland Security’s hazardous-material tank-car tracking pilot findings and recommendations.

(b) Funding. From money appropriated under title 49 section 114(w), $3,000,000 must be available to carry out this section in each of fiscal years 2008, 2009, and 2010.
