6 U.S.C. § 312 — Definition

This section defines a term used elsewhere in this subchapter. "Nuclear Incident Response Team" means two groups of federal resources^* together.

First, Department^* of Energy units. These are the parts of the Department of Energy that handle nuclear or radiological emergencies. Their jobs include responding to accidents, searching for radioactive material, giving advice, and doing technical operations. This also includes staff who handle radiation exposure work at the Radiation Emergency^* Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS), a medical assistance facility, plus other radiological assistance and related functions^*.

Second, Environmental Protection Agency^* units. These are EPA parts that do the same kind of support work, including radiological emergency response functions and related tasks.
