6 U.S.C. § 321k — Model standards and guidelines for critical infrastructure workers

(a) In general. By August 3, 2008 — 12 months after the law's enactment — the Administrator had to work with national professional groups, federal, state, local, and tribal governments, and private and nongovernmental groups to create model standards and guidelines. These standards are for giving credentials — official ID — to critical infrastructure workers. States can use these model standards to credential workers who might respond to a natural disaster, an act of terrorism, or another man-made disaster. (b) Distribution and assistance. The Administrator must give these standards, along with detailed written guidance, to state, local, and tribal governments. The Administrator must also provide expertise and technical help so these governments can credential critical infrastructure workers who might respond to a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster.
