6 U.S.C. § 350 — Workforce health and medical support

(a) In general: The Under Secretary for Management is responsible for workforce-focused health and medical activities of the Department, and may further delegate that responsibility as appropriate. (b) Responsibilities: The Under Secretary for Management, in coordination with the Chief Medical Officer, must: (1) provide oversight and coordinate the Department's medical and health activities for its human and animal personnel; (2) establish medical, health, veterinary, and occupational health exposure policy, guidance, strategies, and initiatives for human and animal personnel; (3) as the Under Secretary considers appropriate, provide medical liaisons to Department components, on a reimbursable basis, to give subject matter expertise on occupational medical and public health issues; (4) serve as the Department's primary representative on agreements for detailing Commissioned Corps officers of the Department of Health and Human Services' Public Health Service to the Department — though the receiving components still retain authority over funding, specific duties, and supervision of those detailed officers; and (5) perform other duties related to these responsibilities that the Secretary requires.
