6 U.S.C. § 665l — School and daycare protection

(a) Report. Within 180 days after December 23, 2022, and every year after that, the Secretary of Homeland Security must report to the House Homeland Security Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee about: (1) the Department’s activities, policies, and plans during the prior year to improve security at early-childhood education programs, elementary schools, and secondary schools, including Department activities through the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse; (2) every Department structure or effort intended to improve coordination among the components and offices carrying out paragraph (1), identifying the participants and the lead component or office for each; and (3) the measures used to protect privacy rights, civil rights, and civil liberties. (b) Briefing. Within 30 days after each report, the Secretary must brief those committees about the report and the status of efforts to carry out the plans it described for the prior year. (c) Definitions. “Early childhood education program,” “elementary school,” and “secondary school” have the meanings given in 20 U.S.C. § 7801; this section does not define them.
