7 U.S.C. § 7655d — Wood innovation grant program

(a) Definitions: "Eligible entity" means an individual; a public or private entity (including a center of excellence combining forestry, engineering, architecture, or business schools at one or more universities); or a state, local, or tribal government. "Secretary" means the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service. (b) Grant program: (1) The Secretary may give a wood innovation grant each year to one or more eligible entities, to advance the use of innovative wood products, following the terms of the "Request for Proposals: 2016 Wood Innovations Funding Opportunity" notice. (2) To be eligible, an entity must submit a proposal in whatever form and with whatever information the Secretary requires. (c) Incentivizing use of existing milling capacity: When choosing among proposals, the Secretary must give priority to ones that use or retrofit existing sawmills in counties where the average unemployment rate was more than 1 percent above the national average the previous year. (d) Matching requirement: To get a grant, an entity must provide matching funds, from non-federal sources, equal to the grant amount it receives.
