People born in Alaska during specified periods receive United States citizenship under different rules. The section excludes noncitizen Indians from one rule, grants citizenship as of June 2, 1924, to an earlier group, and grants citizenship at birth to Indians born on or after that date.
A person born in Alaska on or after March 30, 1867, and before June 2, 1924, is a United States citizen at birth, except that a noncitizen Indian born during that period is not covered by that rule. A noncitizen Indian born in Alaska on or after March 30, 1867, and before June 2, 1924, is declared a United States citizen as of June 2, 1924. An Indian born in Alaska on or after June 2, 1924, is a United States citizen at birth.
A person born in Alaska on or after March 30, 1867, except a noncitizen Indian, is a citizen of the United States at birth. A noncitizen Indian born in Alaska on or after March 30, 1867, and prior to June 2, 1924, is declared to be a citizen of the United States as of June 2, 1924. An Indian born in Alaska on or after June 2, 1924, is a citizen of the United States at birth.
