15 U.S.C. § 4908 — Information on service sector

(a) Service-sector information. The Secretary^* must ensure, as far as possible, that the Data Bank^* includes information about service-sector economic activity that is as complete and current as information about merchandise-sector activity.

(b) Survey. The Secretary must conduct a new benchmark survey of service transactions, including:

(1) banking services;
(2) information services, including computer software services;
(3) brokerage services;
(4) transportation services;
(5) travel services;
(6) engineering services;
(7) construction services; and
(8) health services.

(c) General information and leading-indicator index. The Secretary must provide:

(1) comprehensive information about the economy’s service sector at least once each year; and

(2) an index of leading indicators that measures service-sector activity in direct proportion to the service sector’s contribution to the gross national product of the United States.
