16 U.S.C. § 410oo — Purposes

This section lists the purposes of this subchapter — the law that follows it. (1) Preserve and interpret the history of Natchez, Mississippi, as an important city in the history of the American South. (2) Preserve and interpret the sites and buildings connected to all the people who lived in Natchez and the surrounding area. This covers everyone from the earliest inhabitants to people living today, including Black Americans who were enslaved and those who were free. (3) Preserve and interpret how the region grew socially, politically, and economically. Special attention goes to the years just before and after the Civil War. (4) Preserve and interpret the region's business and farming history. Special attention goes to the Mississippi River and cotton growing.
