18 U.S.C. § 499 — Military, naval, or official passes

This law makes it a crime to forge, alter, or fake a military or official pass. It bans using one to defraud, or falsely claiming to be its rightful holder. It also bans lending your own pass; violators face up to five years in prison.
This section is one rule covering several crimes involving military, naval, or official passes and permits.
It is illegal to falsely make, forge, counterfeit, alter, or tamper with any naval, military, or official pass or permit issued by the United States.
It is illegal to use or possess such a pass or permit if you intend to defraud someone with it.
It is illegal to pretend to be — or pretend not to be — the person the pass or permit was issued to.
It is illegal to willingly let someone else use a pass or permit that was issued for your use alone.
Anyone who breaks this law can be fined under this title, or imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
Whoever falsely makes, forges, counterfeits, alters, or tampers with any naval, military, or official pass or permit, issued by or under the authority of the United States, or with intent to defraud uses or possesses any such pass or permit, or personates or falsely represents himself to be or not to be a person to whom such pass or permit has been duly issued, or willfully allows any other person to have or use any such pass or permit, issued for his use alone, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
