34 U.S.C. § 50322 — Nominations

(a) In general. A state or local agency head may nominate a state or local law enforcement officer working in their own agency for a State and Local Law Enforcement Badge if the officer either (A)(i) was physically injured while (I) doing their lawful duties and (II) performing an act the agency head calls bravery, and (ii) the injury happened because the officer put themselves at personal risk; or (B) wasn't injured, but performed an act the agency head calls bravery that risked serious injury or death. (b) Contents. Each nomination must include: (1) a written account, no more than 2 pages, describing the act of bravery and how it meets the criteria above; (2) the nominee's full name; (3) the nominee's home mailing address; (4) the agency the nominee served in when the act happened; (5) the nominee's job title and grade or rank; (6) the nominee's field office address at the time; and (7) how many years the nominee had served the government at that time. (c) Submission deadline. The agency head must submit each nomination to the Office no later than February 15 of the year after the act of bravery happened.
