40 U.S.C. § 17102 — Prohibition on acquisition or purchase of motor vehicles by Federal Government

This section is one undivided provision, with no lettered subsections. It bars the Federal Government from purchasing a motor vehicle for its own use unless that vehicle is equipped with "reasonable passenger safety devices." The section does not itself list what counts as reasonable — instead, the Administrator of General Services decides which devices are required. Whatever devices the Administrator requires must also conform to the commercial standards that the Administrator separately prescribes under section 17103 of this title, which is covered in the next section of this chapter.
